Customs Regulations

On Arrival

When entering Madagascar, a traveller has the right to bring the following goods:

2L of alcohol

2 cartons or 20 packets of cigarettes

AR 400,000 of bank note in local currency

Clothing, personal effects and any items with no commercial value

Special Requirements

The following are subject to the production of certain specific documents:

Import Authorization for any weapons and ammunition

CITES permit for any species of fauna and flora threatened with extinction

Valid anti-rabies vaccination certificate for pets (dogs, cats etc.)

Phytosanitary certificate and import permit (issued by countries of origin) for plants and foodstuffs.

On Departure

Other than goods not subject to export declaration at the international departure, a traveller has the right to depart with the following goods:

AR 400,000 bank notes in local currency

250g of hallmarked jewellery (residents of Madagascar)

1kg of hallmarked jewellery (non-residents of Madagascar, subject to presentation of a foreign exchange declaration corresponding to the value of the jewels)

2kg prepared vanilla (pods, tréssés etc.)

5kg of dried seed (beans, lentils, cape peas etc.)

1kg of onions

1kg pepper

1kg of coffee

5kg of meat (frozen, chilled or dried) except when entering the European Union

10kg of fish and seafood
